»For us futures are not a destination or something to be strived for but a medium to aid imaginative thought – to speculate with«*
Specollective is a platform to think through, visualize and share different stages of an imaginary future scenario with the community. Therefore, first common assumptions (e.g. climate change transforms the earth into a desert planet) are made up, or imagined questions (e.g. effects of a doubling of human‘s life expectancy on society) are asked, in order to anticipate possible consequences and to develop strategies to react. This enables the community to draw a map of different possible futures via a web application. Following critical design principles, haptic prototypes are integrated and likewise shared.
In addition, Specollective includes a workshop format, that transports the concept into the physical world, allowing smaller groups to speculate together and build up local Specollective-Cells, enriching the online community. The Workshop integrated a prototyping part, where the scenarios where visualized in material form, culminating in a discussion about their visual impact.
The outcomes of the first workshop and the Specollective concept where exhibited at the opening of the newly built design faculty of the University of Applied Sciences within the course of the Munich Creative Business Week 2019.
